Alia Bhatt has an interesting lineup that fans are looking forward to. While she plays a central role in SS Rajamouli’s RRR, the actress will play the lead character in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. While her acting career is impressive, Sadak 2 has recently set foot in the production space and is ready for her debut project Darling which will be released this year.
In a recent chat, the Gully Boy actress got candid about several things, including her plan for the next 10 years, taking on producer responsibilities so early in her Bollywood career, and more. For those unaware, Alia launched Eternal Sunshine Productions in 2021. Read on to find out all she had to say.
During a recent interaction with Film Companion, Alia Bhatt was asked about her decision to become a producer and if it was a burden, in response to that, Gangubai actress Kathiawadi said, “It’s not a burden.” She continued, “You recognize the potential of the script and ultimately you put it together and if I’m a producer I get a percentage of the profits. It’s a big thing for me.
Alia Bhatt added: “It’s not like I’m not going to make money. But for me, it was never about the money. It’s actually about – If I’ve reached 10 years in the industry where I think I’m in a good position to support new work and new talent. It’s not just about powering my engine, it’s now about using that fuel and powering other engines as well.
Speaking about her future plan, Alia said, “I understood why I couldn’t be part of the creative production process. It’s not about mass production or providing funding. It’s about putting a project in a creative way, holding hands with the director or writer, and maybe not always starring in the film. It’s something I want to do. If you ask me for my next 10-year plan, it’s in building my production house.
Alia Bhatt further added that she was thrilled as a producer to “fund new voices, to tell great stories. Moving, moving, sometimes a strange psychological thriller. Adding that she wants to tell unpredictable stories, the actress said, “I don’t think I can do the big tentpole movies. I don’t think I can produce films like that. I don’t have the mind for it and it requires another mind and ability all together. Alia signed off saying she wanted to produce the “warm, fuzzy, touching movies” we see on OTT.
We wish you all the luck to succeed in these projects.
