Alia Bhatt, who is ending a decade in movies this year, says she wants to continue proving her mettle by being part of films that “make her heart flutter”.
The 28-year-old actress, daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan, made her film debut as student of the year 2012 alongside fellow debutants Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan.
When she entered the film industry, the actress said she wanted to balance her acting career and wanted to show off her versatility as an actress. “(So) I chose difficult and less secure roles,” the actor said.
Going forward, Bhatt, whose film credits include Highway, Udta PunjabDear Zindagi, Raazi and Gully Boy, said she wants to work on projects that focus on characters and mass artists.
“Now in this part of life I want to do high profile characters and mass performers because that’s not easy to do either. First I wanted to prove to myself that I could act, then prove to the world, what happened simultaneously. And it will continue to happen. I don’t disappoint people.
“From now on, I just want to enjoy movies. Now it’s about, ‘I’m going to make a movie that will make my heart beat.’ movie that makes me want to rush to the sets. And that’s now my process and it will make me happy along the way,” Alia told PTI.
Last year, the actor also became a producer with darlings, which she supported under her Eternal Sunshine Productions banner. The upcoming dark comedy is billed as the story of an eccentric mother-daughter duo starring Shefali Shah and Alia.
The film, also produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, also stars Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew.
“I’ve been in the industry for 10 years and my next 10-year plan is to build my production house,” she added.
Alia is also excited about her upcoming film Jee Le Zaara, a road drama starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Katrina Kaif. It will be directed by Farhan Akhtar who co-wrote the film with his sister Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti.
“It’s high time the girls got together and made a movie together,” Alia said.
We will then see her in Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Also produced by Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios, the film will hit screens on Friday.
