Anouchka Sharma‘s Clean Slate Filmz is set to produce films and series worth Rs 400 crore ($54 million) for netflix and Amazon Prime Video in the next year and a half.
Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate Filmz is a major player in the streaming wars. The production house was founded by the actress and her brother Karnesh Sharma and will produce movies and series worth Rs 400 crore ($54 million) for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Bloomberg reports.
A Netflix spokesperson recently confirmed that the streaming giant is trying to carve out a foothold in India after six deals and will release three titles produced by Clean Slate Filmz in the coming months. Sharma declined to provide a full list of titles until they were officially announced.
He told Bloomberg that Clean Slate will release at least eight titles on Netflix and Prime Video over the next year and a half. “What’s happened over a period of time is that ambition is also increasing within studio systems,” “And that’s great for people like us.” Sharma said.
Clean Slate began its adventure in 2013 and released its first film in 2015, NH10, a critical and commercial success. Recently, it has produced more forward-thinking titles like Netflix’s Bulbul and Prime Video’s Patal Lok.
The banner will release a new Netflix series in May starring Sakshi Tanwar. He is in production on Qala which will also be the acting debut of Irrfan Khan’s son, Babil Khan. Netflix has also announced that Anushka Sharma is bringing her acting back with the sports biopic Chakda Express based on the life of Indian pacemaker Jhulan Goswami.
The latest update comes weeks after the streaming giant slashed prices in a bid to attract more viewership to the platform and up its game against rivals in India.
