Blue Ox Malthouse is looking for multiple team members to process local grains for craft breweries in New England and the Northeast. Our mission is to develop sustainable markets for local agricultural products, to connect people with their community and to push possibilities in malt, grains and beer.

Open positions in the production team:

The requirements for all positions are the same and shared below. Any specific considerations for a position will be discussed during an interview.

  • Weekday morning shift member: This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) on a Monday to Friday schedule, 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Member of the weekend team: This is a part-time position (10-16 hours per week) on a Sat-Sun schedule.

  • Member of the weekend/weekday team: This is a full-time team member position (35-40 hours per week) working a Sat-Wed schedule.

  • Evening shift member: This is a part-time position (5-6 hours per week) working Sunday-Monday and Wednesday-Thursday evenings for 1-1.5 hours.

What there is to know

Description of work

  • Responsible for assisting maltsters and assistant maltsters with the tasks necessary to process batches of raw grain into malt and maintain high quality standards

  • Warehouse maintenance and upkeep (keep neat and orderly, take out garbage, etc.)

  • Executing commands, including pull, stage, and document commands

  • You must be able to perform and be comfortable with physical labor.

  • Participate in staff and team meetings

  • Work within the global team to support other projects

  • Participate in occasional training and professional development opportunities

  • Other duties as needed and assigned

  • The schedule is 5 days a week

  • Some holiday work required due to the nature of the malting process

Job requirements

  • Attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Ability to learn and apply new skills.

  • Ability to endure physical work and standing for periods of 2 to 6 hours.

  • Ability to shovel grain and green malt for periods of 1-2 hours.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds repeatedly without injury.

  • Reliable transportation to/from work.

  • Flexibility to respond to the adjustment of working hours.

Job duties

  • Perform required duties related to malting, cleaning, storage, order fulfillment and quality control of malt.

  • Duties may change depending on the season and adjusting workloads.

Favorite experience

  • Be over 21 years old.

  • Proper operation of the forklift.

  • Experience with hand and power tools.

  • Warehousing experience

  • Desire to learn about the malting industry.

  • Interest/passion for the craft food and beverage industry.

  • Knowledge of malt and beer.
