Co-Curious expands its production team | tv tonight


The non-profit film, television and theater production company Co-Curious has expanded its production by appointing Clare Atkins (Stateless, The Heights) as story producer and Kali Reid (8 nights west, Clickbait) as a creative producer.

Co-Curious slate includes feature film Khanawritten by Arka Das (Here in the west) and Blake Ayshford (Mystery Road) and works with four writers from underrepresented backgrounds in Western Sydney for Netflix’s Creative Equity Fund. Co-Curious has previously collaborated with Emerald Productions on Here in the west which opened the Sydney Film Festival in 2021.

Co-Curious CEO Annabel Davis said, “Over the next 12 months, Co-Curious will seek to consolidate our learning and build on our body of work both in theater and on screen to to achieve a set of ambitious new goals. Counting and Cracking in theater and Here Out West on screen have helped us refine our unique development model with a focus on learning and development in the years to come.

Bali Padda is also appointed Head of New Work, Stage.

Atkins (left picture) is a screenwriter, script editor, script producer and head of development with 20 years experience in the Australian television industry. She joins ABC’s Co-Curious where she served as Head of Development, supporting story and script development for dramas and comedies including Stateless, Fires, Significant Others, Operation Buffalo, The Heights, Les Norton, Diary of an Uber Driver, Content and Here. In the West. She is the author of Nona & Me, a young adult fiction novel written while living in Arnhem Land, which was shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards 2015. Her second novel, Between Us, won the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year for Older Readers 2019 and was shortlisted for the Premier of Victoria, Premier of New South Wales and Premier’s Literary Awards. Her first picture book, Egg, will be released in 2022.

Reid (right picture) just wrapped post-production on the ABC series 8 Nights Out West and served as associate producer on Netflix’s hit thriller Clickbait. In 2019, Reid executive produced the Screenability Film Makers Fund for Create NSW, which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival. Previously, she was the script development coordinator at Matchbox Pictures, where she developed award-winning projects including Stateless, The Heights, Glitch and Secret City. Prior to television, Kali was a curator and produced live work for the Sydney Festival, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Art & About, Underbelly Arts Festival and Carriageworks, among others.
