Determine Launches Production House – Jamaica Observer

singjay Determine recently launched his production company to help expose his songs and new talent. Sandy Lane Production is the name of the company, and its first release is its song, Mi nuh do Dat.

The label is named after the community in which Determine was born and raised in Annotto Bay, St Mary.

“I have a lot of exciting things in my job. We don’t know where we come from and hopefully we can help some young people there,” he said.

Mi nuh do Dat came out in March. The tracks for the single were actually first laid down in 2012 in Queens, New York, but he said several hurdles kept him from coming out.

“Bwoy, it’s like a relief. It’s like everything falls into place and things happen,” Determine said.

Through Sandy Lane Production, he plans to enter a different career phase which sees him overseeing his recordings and publications.

Most dancehall fans associate Determine (first name: Rohan Bennett) with Kette drum, the 1995 Nyahbinghi single he made with Beenie Man for producer Bobby Digital. It was one of many popular beat singles that also led to hit songs like Cocoa Tea’s Holy Mount Zion, Seek God by Bounty Killer and ‘Til I’m Laid to Rest by Buju Banton.

Kette drum was Determine’s third song, after Hill of Zion and full speed (with Terror Fabulous). His signature remains.

“Anywhere you hear it, it’s like I do. It’s timeless, always full of energy,” he said.
