Jon Watts – whose last project was a short film titled Spider–Man: No Path Homepage– joined the team as a producer, according to a report on Deadline, and wrote the story treatment that will be turned into a screenplay by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick.
The last Final Destination The flick – slated for a yet-to-be-determined debut on HBO Max – also has Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Dianne McGunigle on board as producers.
Watts said in a statement that he was a “big fan” of the Final Destination series since the first film. “So being able to participate in shaping a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be fun and exciting,” he added.
The original 2000 Final Destination– directed by James Wong from a screenplay he wrote starring Jeffrey Reddick and Glen Morgan – stars Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith and Tony Todd. The story follows a teenager who cheats on death after having a premonition of a catastrophic airplane explosion. He and his friends are spared, but death later takes the lives of those who were to die on the plane.
The film was not well received by critics, but still made $ 113 million on a budget of $ 23 million and even won a Saturn Award for best horror film.
