‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ production crew arrested in house construction

“On June 16, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., United States Capitol Police (USCP) received a call for a disturbance at the Longworth House office building. Responding officers observed seven people, unescorted and without congressional ID, in a sixth-floor hallway,” Capitol police said in a statement late Friday.

“The building was closed to visitors, and these individuals were determined to be part of a group that had been ordered by the USCP to vacate the building earlier in the day,” the statement continued.

CBS confirmed in a statement to CNN that on Wednesday and Thursday “Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was onsite at the Capitol with a production crew recording interviews for a comedy segment on behalf of” the show.

“Their interviews on Capitol Hill were cleared and pre-arranged by the congressional aides of the members interviewed,” CBS said. “After leaving the members’ offices for their final interview of the day, the production crew stayed to film stand-ups and other final comedy elements in the hallways when they were detained by police. of the Capitol.”

Capitol Police did not identify those involved in the incident, but said they were charged with unlawful entry.

“This is an active criminal investigation, and may result in additional criminal charges after consultation with the U.S. Attorney,” the Capitol Police statement said.
