Lewis Hamilton says he plans to “focus fully” on the new film and TV company he launched at the end of his racing career.

The former seven-time world champion launched Dawn Apollo Films together with his manager, Penni Thow.

Among the two initial projects with Apple TV+ are the Formula 1-based film set with star Brad Pitt, who attended the United States Grand Prix in Austin to learn about the sport, for which Hamilton will serve as executive producer. .

The other project in the works is a documentary about the life and career of the 37-year-old Mercedes driver, due for release in late 2023 or early 2024.

Right now, of course, Hamilton has to balance his off-track interests with trying to increase his record total of 103 race wins and his quest for an eighth world championship which will be his ultimate goal in 2023.

But when he puts time on his career, it seems the new venture is what the Brit sees himself spending most of the professional side of his life on.

In a new interview with Deadline, Hamilton said: “I’m very aware of other great athletes who spend their whole lives like me, focused on their sport, and when they get to the end maybe they don’t necessarily have had the right people around them to help structure the journey ahead of them.

“I’ve talked to people who said ‘look, when I quit it all fell apart, I wasn’t ready to do anything else, I hadn’t taken the time to learn other jobs, other skills, and I don’t “I don’t know what my other passions are, so I haven’t really focused on trying to understand them and building pillars.”

“So when I stop racing – which I don’t plan on doing for a while, I always feel like I’m in a good place – I want it to be smooth.

“I want to be able to move on to fully focus on Dawn Apollo Films and be able to step in on a similar level to what I’ve been used to.”

When asked if he plans to become an actor himself, Hamilton said: “It fascinates me, I really am. I would love to try it one day but I am very aware that it takes 10,000 hours to master something.

“I am very stubborn. If I have to do something, I want it to be really good. I don’t necessarily have to be the best at everything, but I know how hard these actors worked.

“I don’t want to be one of those celebrities who go into a different field and think they can do it easily.”

Hamilton also explained the name Dawn Apollo Films and what inspired him to start the company.

“Apollo is the Greek god of sunlight, music and poetry, so I’ve always loved that name,” he said. “Dawn because it is a time of another world and light, and symbolizes a new beginning. It’s usually a time of day that I enjoy.

“There are a lot of movies that I find inspiring and I’ve always dreamed of one day doing something in this space. I sat down with my team and asked ‘what would it take for us to start a company? of production ?’ and I shopped around and met an array of producers and filmmakers in LA just to get some knowledge.

“The goal is to create impactful stories and ultimately to inspire people through films and stories.”
