Australia – Deakin University and Dreamscreen have signed a historic partnership agreement to dramatically improve the nation’s movie and entertainment industry. The university has invested heavily in ROE Visual Black Pearl panels and associated Technical Direction Company (TDC) equipment, which marks an upcoming advanced virtual production facility in Geelong, Australia.

Under the agreement, Dreamscreen will have exclusive panel access for television and film projects. As a result, there will be 25 industry placements each year for Deakin film, animation and design students to work on Dreamscreen projects. The agreement opens the door to content production, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and collaborate with industry professionals in the world-class LED studio.

With increasing volumes of LEDs around the world, this new opportunity to achieve win-win outcomes for both parties brings new benefits to local digital technology and the creative industry. Equipped with ROE Visual Black Pearl BP2V2 panels and TDC’s reliable and ongoing technical support, the new state-of-the-art virtual production studio in Geelong will be at the forefront of the Australian film market, being the largest facility in virtual production owned by a university in Australia.

Deakin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin said the deal was a “significant win for Deakin” that strengthened the university’s capabilities at the interface of digital technology and the creative industries. “This will allow our students to be exposed to some of the world’s most exciting film production technologies and solidify Deakin’s position as a digital leader,” said Professor Martin.

Forming a massive 26m x 6m LED wall, the BP2V2 panels are ready to show off their unparalleled performance in-camera. BP2V2 works great for virtual production with its high frame rate, high refresh rate, and low scanlines, adding faster and easier camera setup and handling. The excellent characteristics make it ideal for television and film applications.

Working with ROE Visual LED on numerous occasions, Dreamscreen Australia has introduced Black Pearl BP2V2 panels out of confidence and foresight. La Brea Season 1 was shot in front of a BP2V2 screen, creating an immersive digital environment in the filming process.

Filmmaker and Founder and Managing Director of Dreamscreen Australia, Clayton Jacobson, found virtual production to be the inevitable culmination of film production and games technology. “Virtual production requires the close collaboration of many different film disciplines, both traditional and new, working closely together on stage to deliver breathtaking real-time effects.”

Mr. Jacobson continued, “We are dedicated to more creative productions with the latest techniques. And ROE Visual provides essential support in LED technology, delivering an ideal display solution with stunning in-camera performance.
