LIMERICK Enterprise Development Partnership (LEDP) has welcomed the inclusion of its planned new multifunctional Creative and Innovative Industries Center at the Innovation Center on Roxboro Road in the recently announced Midwest Regional Business Plan.

The project will reinforce the Mid-West region’s vision of being recognized as the most equipped region in Europe for complete film production facilities.

The facility, which was first mooted as part of LEDP’s 2021-2026 strategic plan, will include Ireland’s first virtual production studio and suitable space to facilitate and encourage the growth of local sub-suppliers of SMEs in the film industry.

A vacant unit totaling 33,000 square feet at LEDP’s Innovation Center has been identified for this project with areas likely to benefit including prop manufacturing, lighting and set construction.

Welcoming the inclusion of the center in the regional business plan, Niall O’Callaghan, Managing Director of LEDP, said: “At LEDP we want to increase our business and job creation activities and generate opportunities. Obtaining this recognition and support from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment gives us the necessary impetus to complete this strategic project in the fourth quarter of 2023.”

A tender has been launched for a feasibility study, supported by Enterprise Ireland, and LEDP says it looks forward to seeing the project through to completion and seeing jobs and pathways created for people who want to enter the film industry. .

The objective of the regional business plan is to create the conditions for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses, to encourage new investment and business growth, and to lead to increased employment in each region. .
